Guiding our children to become the best versions of themselves and our future leaders is a big job. It is also one of the most joyful and rewarding experiences of my life.

How About Some Good News

How About Some Good News

You don't have to look too far to find some disturbing news about some dreadful discovery or atrocious behavior going on somewhere in the world. Social media and 24-hour news networks keep you updated on the gloom and doom endlessly if you're willing to participate.

That's not really the whole story. If you choose to look in another direction you'll discover that there are also amazing people and countries looking out for our environment and taking care of each other. Extending kindness, working together and making a positive impact.

Let me share a little good news from around the world:

  • Denis Estimon, a high school senior at Boca Raton Community High school formed the "We Dine Together" club to make sure everyone at his school was included during lunch period.
  • Sweden opened their first mall for repaired and recycled goods. Recycling has now gone from local drop-off centers to a shopping mall that sells only repaired or up-cycled products.
  • A new report published by the International Renewable Energy Agency says that the renewable energy sector now employs 9.8 million people worldwide. That figure is expected to reach 24 million by 2030.
  • Ecuador is the first country to recognize the Rights of Nature in its Constitution. Their constitution recognizes nature's right to "exist, persist, maintain and regenerate its vital cycles." Citizens have the right, by law, to enforce nature's rights, and nature itself can be named as the defendant.
  • Chicago just announced their commitment to converting their city public buildings' electricity supply to 100% renewable energy by 2025.
  • The Golden Temple in Punjab, India provides free food to more than 100,000 people per day and all persons are welcome. Volunteers and donations run the entire operation.

Yes, there is a lot in the world and our own backyards that need to be fixed but looking at the glass as half full from time to time gives us a more realistic perspective. The more we acknowledge the good and the positive progress going on around us the more we are inspired to be a part of it.
