  • Jalapenos got their name from the town where they originated called “Jalapa” in Mexico.
  • About 40,000 acres are dedicated to the cultivation of Jalapenos in Mexico.
  • Smoked and dried Jalapenos are call “chipotles” and are a popular ingredient in Tex Mex food.
  • The chemical in peppers that makes them hot is called “capsaicin” and isn’t found in any other plant.
  • Generally – the smaller the pepper the hotter it is – the hottest peppers in the world are no more than 3” long.
