P - Peaches

  • Peaches are what is called a “stone fruit “and a member of the rose family. There are over 700 varieties of this fruit world wide.
  • Peaches were mentioned as early as 79 A.D. in literature.
  • A large peach has fewer than 70 calories, is a good source of Vitamins A and C and contains 3 grams of fiber.
  • During Roman times, people thought peaches originated from Persia –Peaches have also been called ‘Persian Apples”.
  • The world’s largest peach cobbler is made every year in Georgia, which is known as the Peach State. That cobbler measures 11 feet by 5 feet.
  • A Nectarine is a type of peach that has smooth skin instead of velvety (which is typical for peaches).
