  • Cactus is the singular word for the plant, cacti is the plural form.
  •  A cactus doesn’t have leaves like other plants do. A cactus has spines or thorns.
  • Cacti can gather and hold a lot of water in their stems. The water is not pure, clear water but rather a thick liquid. It is drinkable though and has probably saved many people in the deserts.
  • The Fruits and fleshy part of many cacti are edible. The Seri Indians of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico consumed fruits from over twenty species.
  • Cacti can survive from 15 to 300 years, depending on the species.
